The mission of the Hope Center Development Corporation is to provide hope and empowerment to its community by providing holistic initiatives addressing the needs of the whole person. HCDC is governed by a voluntary board of directors that include representatives from various institutions. HCDC partners with various agencies to maximize its effectiveness as a community-based organization. Individuals from a diverse background are served including low income, children, seniors, homeless, shelters, people with disabilities. The goal is to connect food insecure individuals to resources. We offer educational programs including GED, computer classes, health screenings, mental health support, annual health expo, annual Christmas toy drive for the community, mental health support, financial literacy classes etc. HCDC opens its doors on weekdays and weekends to make sure people of East Flatbush and surrounding communities (including Brownsville, East New York and Crown Heights) can gain open-door access to food and other benefits. We serve people regardless of their age, ethnicity, gender, sexual orientation, victims of domestic violence, working poor, unemployed, residents of shelters and people in housing transition. Our goal as a community-based organization is a) to fight hunger in our surrounding communities; and b) to help people address the secondary problems that hunger presents in struggling New York City communities.
